Celebrating Life’s Events

The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!”

Lamentations 3: 22-24

Church Services in English (or English/Swedish)

We are delighted to offer Baptism, Confirmation, Marriage, and Funeral services in English or a mixture of English and Swedish. You do not need to be a member of our church to participate, though fees may apply for weddings and funerals for non-members, and sometimes for baptisms outside of Sunday services.

Baptism

Baptism usually takes place during one of our Sunday morning services, where the congregation welcomes a new member into God’s family.

For children, parents and godparents make promises on their behalf:

  • I turn to Christ as Saviour.

  • I submit to Christ as Lord.

  • I come to Christ, the way, the truth, and the life.

Older children are encouraged to make these promises themselves. Adults who have not been baptized are also warmly welcomed to take this important step in their journey of faith.

Some families like to celebrate with coffee and cake after the service, while others may continue the celebration elsewhere. Either way, baptism is a joyful occasion for both family and congregation.

Private baptisms outside Sunday services can be arranged for medical reasons, while social arrangements are welcome with a small donation to church funds.

Confirmation

Confirmation is an opportunity for children and adults to explore the Christian faith more deeply and make for themselves the promises made at baptism. Our classes are small and flexible.

In the Church of England, only a bishop can conduct a Confirmation service. Some young people choose to be confirmed in the Church of Sweden, and we support them with prayers and accompaniment during their preparation. Where possible, members of St Andrew’s attend the service.

Marriage

Every wedding at St Andrew’s is special and unique. For non-members, we ask a fee of 2,000 kr, which does not include music or flowers.

Because weddings are relatively few (the most in a recent year was nine), each ceremony is carefully tailored. Whether you are planning a blessing service following a civil marriage or a full wedding, we are happy to work with you to make it meaningful.

Funerals

Funeral services are usually for those with connections to England, though not necessarily with St Andrew’s. We provide guidance in creating a service that is appropriate and respectful.

For non-members, the fee for a funeral service is the same as for a wedding.
